After receiving her university degree in Scandinavian and German studies, Anne von Canal worked as an editor in German publishing for more than 10 years. She then decided to dedicate herself to her own writing and has published two novels: Der Grund (The Reason) and Whiteout, as well as the literary essay Mein Gotland (My Gotland). For her writing she received a grant from the Deutscher Literaturfonds as well as several prestigious fellowships in Europe and the US. Her books have been translated into several languages such as French, Estonian and Latvian. If not exploring the world, she makes her home alternately in Hamburg and on the Moselle River.
