Conference in French by Hotel de Tingry Special Resident, Macha Makeïeff

Macha Makeïeff trained at the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Marseille, then at the Sorbonne and the Institut d’art de Paris. She chose the path of directing, joined Antoine Vitez who entrusted her with her first direction, then created a company with Jérôme Deschamps and invented the Deschiens for Canal+ and more than 20 shows. She designs the sets and costumes for her shows, stages numerous operas, exhibits in various museums (Arts Décoratifs, Cinémathèque, Grand Palais, Fondation Cartier…) and publishes essays. Macha Makeïeff has been directing La Criée – Théâtre national de Marseille since 2011 and is committed to bringing together music, images, visual arts and circus around a demanding theatrical program. After Les Apaches, Ali Baba, Bulgakov’s Flight, Les Âmes offensées, Trissotin or Les Femmes savantes, she created Lewis versus Alice at the Festival d’Avignon 2019 and imagined at the Maison Jean Vilar Trouble fête, collections curieuses et choses inquiètes, an exhibition that she reinvented at the Musée des Tapisseries, Palais de l’Archevêché in Aix-en-Provence and this season at the TNP. She retired from La Criée in 2022. She is preparing Dom Juan, her next creation.
