A discreet yet ubiquitous figure on the French jazz scene—from Papanosh to the Orchestre National de Jazz and the Zoot collective—Quentin Ghomari presents his most personal project to date with Ôtrium. A clever blend of otium (leisure, in Roman times) and trio, his group brings together trumpet, double bass, and drums in a lineup as bold as it is stripped-down: without piano or guitar, every voice is exposed, every silence counts.
Alongside the leader are Yoni Zelnik on double bass—an architect of hypnotic grooves with solid notes—and Gautier Garrigue on drums, who balances his playing with unfailing musicality. Together, they weave original compositions where lyricism and fantasy, rigor and spontaneity constantly feed off one another. Music that carries within it the memory of the great jazz tradition—Miles Davis, Kenny Wheeler—without ever allowing itself to be confined by it.
