Carl E. Hazlewood

Design

Carl E. Hazlewood is a Guyana-born artist, curator, and writer who cofounded Aljira a Center for Contemporary Art in Newark. He has received fellowships and residencies at the Bogliasco Foundation, NARS Foundation, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Headlands Center for the Arts, Yaddo, and MacDowell Colony, among others. A 2017 Tree of Life Foundation award grantee, his 52-foot mural Traveler was commissioned by the Knockdown Center, Maspeth, Queens, in 2017. Hazlewood’s work was seen in the PRIZM, Volta, and Scope Art Fairs, and has been written about in BOMB Magazine and the New York Times.
