Dan Devening is an artist, curator, writer, and educator. He is currently a Professor (Adj.) in the Department of Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work has been shown extensively, including recent exhibitions in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Tokyo, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Mexico. He has curated exhibitions both nationally and internationally, including projects at oqbo in Berlin, dok25A in Düsseldorf, Hagiwara Projects in Tokyo, and the Block Museum of Art in Chicago, among others. His essays have been published in several recent publications, including Out of Place: Artists, Pedagogy, and Purpose, Clay Pop: What’s New in Clay, and Where the Echo Drifts, an essay on the work of artist Dagmar Varady, published in Expanded Studio. He has received grants, awards, and fellowships from the Ford Family Foundation in Portland, Oregon; the Illinois Arts Council; the NEA; and the MacArthur Foundation (International Connections) among many more. He lives and works in Chicago.
