Ben Mauk is a writer, journalist, and filmmaker of borders and peripheries. His writing appears in The New York Times MagazineThe New YorkerHarper’sGranta, and the London Review of Books, among other publications, and has been anthologized three times in the Best American series. His first book, a work of narrative nonfiction about life in the shadow of the nation-state, is forthcoming from Farrar, Straus and Giroux. His accolades include an Emmy Award, Peabody Award, NEH Public Scholars Award, jury prizes from SXSW and NewImages, and a New America fellowship. Based in Berlin, Germany and Cleveland, Ohio, he is Shirley Wormser Professor of Journalism and Media Writing at Case Western Reserve University.
