Sabrina Dhawan is a screenwriter. Her debut feature Monsoon Wedding won ‘Leon D’Oro’ at the Venice Film Festival amongst other awards and was nominated for a Golden Globe and BAFTA. Other credits include award-winning films Cosmopolitan, Kaminey, Ishqiya. She wrote the stage musical adaptation of Monsoon Wedding. Saanjh – As Night Falls, a short she wrote and directed won ‘Best of the Festival’ at Palm Springs Festival; ‘Most Original Film’ from New Line Cinema, ‘Audience Impact’ Award at Angelus Awards.
In the US, Sabrina has written for 20th Century Fox, HBO, Disney, Killer Films, ABC Family, Fox Searchlight, Netflix. In India: UTV, Fox-Star, Shemaroo, Excel Entertainment. Current assignments include CHARDI KALA, for Excel Entertainment (with Rakeysh Mehra to direct and Farhan Akhtar to star)
Sabrina has taught at filmmaking in India, Uganda, Tanzania Singapore, Qatar and across the USA. She is a Professor at the Tisch School of the Arts, NYU.
