A look at and presentation of the Michel Biehn Collection by Jeanne Biehn
Michel Biehn, an antique dealer in L’Isle sur la Sorgue, a recognized expert on Provençal fabrics, and a specialist in antique costumes, spent forty years of his life collecting textiles from the four corners of the globe. Today, at the Hôtel Tingry, his daughter Jeanne Biehn, guardian of his collection, has selected some thirty of his finest costumes, tracing a singular trajectory.
Each stage of Michel Biehn’s odyssey, from Burma to Afghanistan via Syria, Turkey and India, reveals treasures in textiles, colors and weaving. Ancestral stories of people and places, handed down from generation to generation, are interwoven in this exhibition, a truly universal celebration of the work of the hand, and a manifesto of the beauty of the unique and the ordinary garments of another time.
The exhibition is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays 1-6PM.
