Pamela Newkirk

Pamela Newkirk is an award-winning journalist and scholar. Her latest book, Spectacle: The Astonishing Life of Ota Benga, was listed among the best books of 2015 by NPR, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Boston Globe, Huffington Post Black Voices, and the Root, and it won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Nonfiction Literature and the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation Legacy Award. She is also author of Within the Veil: Black Journalists, White Media. She edited Letters from Black America: Intimate Portraits of the African American Experience; and A Love No Less: Two Centuries of African American Love Letters. Newkirk is professor of journalism at New York University, and she was a Dora Maar fellow in may 2013.
